Description

The Venini “Battuto a Nido d’Ape” Vase is one of the most celebrated masterpieces designed by architect and designer Carlo Scarpa for Venini. First conceived in 1940, this iconic creation is part of the historic Battuti series, which redefined the possibilities of Murano glass through innovative surface treatments and sculptural expression.

Handcrafted in Murano, the vase is made from blown glass and then meticulously cold-worked (“battuto”) to create its distinctive textured surface. Small irregular hexagonal impressions cover the entire body, evoking the natural structure of a honeycomb. This tactile pattern transforms the glass into a living surface that interacts with light, shadow, and perspective.

The result is a piece that feels both architectural and organic—rigorous in its geometry yet inspired by natural formations and traditional textile patterns. Scarpa’s design philosophy emerges clearly: a dialogue between material, craftsmanship, and nature.

Each vase is individually crafted by master glassmakers, ensuring subtle variations that make every piece unique. The balance between precision and imperfection gives it a timeless, sculptural presence.
