Canoa by Venini

The Venini Canoa Vase is a remarkable example of Murano glass artistry and modern Italian design. Created by renowned designers Tobia Scarpa and Ludovico Diaz de Santillana, the Canoa piece was introduced in the early 1960s as part of Venini’s experimental exploration of sculptural glass forms.

Inspired by the slender profile of a canoe, the vase features an elongated shape that rises gracefully from a solid blown-glass base. The edges gently curve upward, creating a fluid silhouette that evokes movement and lightness while maintaining a strong sculptural presence.

Each piece is handcrafted in Murano using traditional blown and “battuto” (beaten) glass techniques. After blowing the glass, master artisans grind the surface with special wheels, creating a subtle pattern of irregular marks that give the piece its distinctive texture and depth. This process enhances the transparency of the glass while producing a refined matte appearance that interacts beautifully with light.

The Canoa vase is produced as a numbered edition, emphasizing its status as a collectible design object. With its elegant proportions and artistic craftsmanship, it functions both as a decorative centerpiece and as a sculptural work of art—perfect for sophisticated interiors or curated design collections.
